“ This bunch can turn hilarity and terror on and off like a light…This mob will have me ripped screaming - or maybe laughing - from my darkest dreams for months to come.”
The Scotsman

Joker in the Forest:
A new solo work inspired by Katsura Kan’s observations of elephant trainers on the Thai – Burmese border, during his research of the Karen Tribe.

'These trainers seemed to be a kind of shaman who recognised that the elephant is not just an animal. Wild elephants are spirits from the tropical rain forest. When the shaman starts to train I sense that a dance begins'

By special permission of Cave: New York Butoh Festival

Fragment of Adam:
Katsura Kan works in dialogue with three London artists who are using Butoh in their work.

'A love song from the wind of the Mediterranean,
conceived under the moon light.
Our body is a ship carrying something
important from a long time ago'

Created in collaboration with Aleksandra Bjelajac, Belgrade

Well known all over the world Katsura Kan is in demand as a teacher, performer and chorographer. He offers a unique perspective to challenge western dancers and actors. He was a member of the Kyoto-based Butoh company, Bayyokosha, and then embarked on his own journey, travelling throughout South East Asia, and in particular Thailand and Indonesia, where he studied many fascinating ancient and modern performing arts.
